Restructuring of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education: Draft Proposal

The restructuring of higher secondary course is intended to streamline the secondary education in par with the national pattern by combining classes 9 and 10,11,12 and vocational higher secondary in to a common secondary school system starting from class 9 to 12 together.

All the higher secondary schools will have classes 9 to 12.For classes 9 and 10 PGT's will handle the classes.In each class there will be 3 divisions with a maximum number of children is 35.For class 11 and 12 five combinations with a maximum no of 40 students may be admitted.The same teachers will handle classes for both 9,10,11 and 12.

Soft core subjects will include ICT work education,visual performing,arts, physical fitness and games and creative and literately skills.ICT will be common to all students.Among the other four one subject should be selected by every student as soft core 2.There will be two periods in a week for this soft core subjects.
The duration of one period will be one hour.There will be six working days in every week except second week of every month.
The working hours for students will be 8.30 AM to 3.30 PM.Each day one period preferably 2.30 to 3.30 will be given for library work/practicals.

Soft Core 1:ICT skill for information gathering, processing and presentation
Soft Core 2:Project work with community participation with the help of local institutions.
Soft Core 3:Study of one language and literature :Malayalam, Hindi, Arabic, Urdu and Sanskrit
Soft Core 4:Any one of the core subjects & English can be taken as soft core,that means no in depth study but a general understanding about the subject.

Time Schedule

Two periods in a week will be given to each soft core subjects.For the forth core any of the subjects included in the core area can be selected by the students by their interest.Classes will start at 8.30 AM and morning session ends at 12.45 PM.English,Core subjects and ICT Skill soft core will be completed in the morning session.In the after noon session 1.30 PM to 2.30 PM will be the other three soft cores.2.30 to 4 pm will be time for the practicals and library work.Teachers working hours will be 8.15 AM to 4.15 PM

There will be 16 classes and a maximum of 600 students in a secondary school.Every panchayath have a secondary school and skill training centre.
Skill training centre will be the new centres which is intended to give job oriented training in retail marketing,construction ,tourism and health.
Students can be selected from the schools by the teacher appointed by the skill training centre.The selected and interested students can be enrolled in the skill training centre.They can attend the course after the regular class time ie 3 PM to 6 PM
